Waste it Wisely Frame Price $14.00 TEDI THOMPSON-MAGRINI Carolina Color Creations ​ Tedi Thompson-Magrini is a transplant from northern Virginia. While she has always loved art and working with her hands, her formal training is in education and management. Shortly before retiring from a career in higher education, she discovered alcohol ink. The flow and designs created by the ink had her hooked. She started making coasters. A few months later, a friend was preparing for a holiday craft show and discovered her space was larger than expected. Needing to fill space, she asked Tedi if she had some of those “cool” coasters ready and if not, could she make some, so she would sell them at the fair. By the end of the fair, it was evident that others enjoyed the patterns of alcohol ink as well. A few months later, in January 2014, Carolina Color Creations was born. In addition to coasters, Carolina Color Creations offers magnets, inked candles, upcycled lighted wine bottles, switch plate covers, and even some jewelry, key chains and bookmarks. Alcohol ink can be used on a variety of non-porous materials and Tedi loves experimenting with different substrates. For a change of pace, she also makes beaded ceiling fan pulls and welcomes special order coasters. She has done coasters with pets, weddings, vacations, and images special for the recipient to create lasting memories. JENNIFER TURNER-TAYLOR Jennifer Turner-Taylor is a jewelry designer native to Alamance county and currently residing in Mebane, North Carolina with her husband and 6-year-old daughter. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC-Wilmington in Psychology and Sociology and her Master of Science degree in Management from Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts where she resided for 8 years before moving back to North Carolina in 2013. She’s worked in special education since 2006 and currently serves as an advocate for persons with disabilities in Alamance County while creating jewelry in her spare time. She began her passion for jewelry design in early 2019 when she began dabbling in several different crafts including children’s hair accessories, children’s jewelry, and now women’s accessories. She really enjoys wire wrapping, metal-stamping, and working with glass beads. You’ll find that her jewelry creations have a minimalist style with a splash of color for fun. Jennifer is excited to be a part of the artist community at Impulsive Creativity and is always looking for more opportunities to get more involved in her local community. CARRIE MAY Carrie May Art ​ Carrie May is a self-taught acrylic artist living in Mebane with her husband and two boys. She has a master's degree in Public Health and is a research administrator at the VA. Carrie grew up in a family that valued creativity, especially music, however she didn't get into art until her mid-thirties. After her kids fell asleep, Carrie would break out her paints. Bit by bit, over the last 5 years, she has grown her painting skills. Carrie enjoys painting surreal acrylic landscapes, outdoor scenes, and animals. Using carefully chosen colors, she creates scenes with bold and saturated color schemes. Carrie also designs visually brilliant fluid art and jewelry. Carrie believes that life is enhanced by creativity and that you are never to old to learn a new skill. She is thrilled to share her art with a wider audience. His first creative love was, and is, writing. Later, he came to have an affinity for photography. And when Greiner started providing freelance services, he had to learn about tools to promote his work and thus jumped into graphic design. While he doesn’t consider himself a painter, and does not have any professional education in it, he does enjoy it and says it serves as a type of stress reduction. Other than that, Greiner does custom art projects, teaches lessons, blogs, provides blog promo services and does some social media management and SEO. CAROLYN WING-DAVIS Rocky Top Wooden Crafts, LLC ​ Carolyn Davis, of Hillsborough, started her business (Rocky Top Wood Crafts) in the Fall of 2016. Using mostly different types of wood found on her property, and cut by her husband, Ronnie, as well as other reclaimed materials, Carolyn produces many types of handcrafted wood items. These crafts include decoupage, wood burned, and acrylic painted items, as well as other unique items such as vintage slate wall hangings, Peg People, scroll saw chunky puzzles, and kitchen decorations. In her spare time Carolyn loves to crochet, quilt, cross stitch and do gardening with her husband. Carolyn’s 12 year old cat, Smokey Bear Davis, Esquire, an avid fan of Toby the Shop Kitty, is the acting supervisor on the property and in the studio. See Rocky Top Wood Crafts on its Facebook Page. ​ AMANDA DUNCAN Simply Adorned 79 ​ Owner, Amanda Duncan, is a native of Cary, NC and currently resides in Holly Springs with her sons, Cullen and Tegan. Simply Adorned 79 was founded by Duncan in August 2018 and is grounded in the concept that unique jewelry can also be affordable. Using a CAD program, Duncan creates original leather jewelry designs which are cut out and engraved using a CO2 laser. The jewelry pieces are hand-dyed using water-based dyes and assembled for wear. Duncan enjoys creating styles that are accessible for individuals of all ages. Pam Spurrier An Original By Pam ​ Pam Spurrier and her husband, John, moved to Swepsonville, NC, in December 2016, from Columbia, SC, where they had made their home for over 42 years. Pam attended Nazareth College (BS Mathematics) and the University of Missouri (MA Statistics). Although not formally trained in art, she has always been crafty; as a child, she learned to crochet, knit and sew from beloved aunts and cousins. When their daughter left for college in 2000, Pam decided it was time to pursue a lifetime interest in painting. Her passion is silk painting. Besides silk, her favorite mediums are watercolor and colored pencil. Pam is a certified One Stroke instructor and teaches classes in glass painting and silk painting. Pam continues to improve her artistic talents through workshops and professional organizations. She loves to try new techniques and to apply them “outside the box.” Marty Highfield Marty Originals ​ Marty Highfield is a North Carolina native with a degree in Textile Design from NC State University. However, since moving to the Mebane area she has been focusing more on her other "hats" as a wife, mother, artist, crafter and sewer. She does pencil portraits and pen and ink artwork in which the prints are sold at Impulsive Creativity, but commissions for original art are welcomed. She also enjoys getting back to her textile roots and creating cute creatures, fun pillows and other home decor out of fabric and notions. He got into woodworking in 2015 by building a headboard out of pallet wood just to see if he could do it, and after that experience he found that he loved the many nuances of the craft. He enjoys designing projects and problem solving all the issues that will inevitably come up as a project takes shape. He also enjoys the feeling of satisfaction when a project is done well or the warmth of a mistake fueled fire when the project doesn't go according to plan. I am primarily a knitter, but I also love working with color and texture in many other forms: fabric, ribbon, buttons. I knit for pleasure, to make lovely things, to give handmade gifts, to share my passion with other and through that, to relieve tension. There is nothing more satisfying than choosing a project with someone else in mind, watching it come to life through your efforts, then presenting it and seeing the recipient's reaction. I grew up in MA, went to school in PA, and moved to NC over 20 years ago. My children were born here. This appears in many forms: the ripples and waves of water, the effects created by the ebb and flow of surf on sand, the wispy appearance of fire, the swirls of clouds, the flutter of leaves on trees, the multifaceted shapes of buds and flowers, the feathered wings of birds. These themes are expressed many different ways in my fabric works. My fiber work also results from the use of organic materials born of the earth. Threads for fabric are spun from silk worms, grown from cotton, or sheared from sheep. My dyes and marbling on silk have a translucent quality. The imagery of the marbled pieces is diffuse and organic. Patterns result from manipulating colors of paint dropped on a viscous surface; the resistance of water allows patterns to emerge; repeatedly dying one panel results in cross currents of color and form. ANGELA THORNTON Kritterz ​ I have lived in Burlington for most of my life. I have a hubby, a 22 year old son, and two large fur babies. I have a day job in which I am part of a finance team for an educational publishing company. But when you get right down to why I started my Kritterz- here it is, I love, love whimsy!!! Anything that makes you smile, wonder, and want to create. I started off making sock animals, because let's face it- there are so many awesome socks out there the possibilities are endless. I also noticed that when I went to craft shows, there wasn't a lot there for kids(even though they were being dragged to these things by their parents) So, I came up with a cool spin on some basic patterns, showed them to my brother who is great with branding, and he said, " these are great, go to shows and see how you do!" My Kritterz were born! As for my needle felting, those started with making a gift for friend's birthday! From there they have evolved from my imagination and wanting to make people smile. I love that they can be the perfect gift for the one you have no idea what to give. MARY SUE SCHIER Mystic Art MARY SUE SCHIER is a retired project manager who now turns her time and talents to acrylic fluid art through her business, Mystic Art. She enjoys the creative challenge of learning new techniques in fluid art and creating paintings in a variety of sizes. Mystic Art can be found at several art and craft shows throughout the area. When she is not creating art or at shows, she spends her time with her family and beloved Sheepadoodle Mollie. ​ "ACRYLIC FLUID ART not only provides a creative outlet, it has become my meditation as well. Working with only paint, the canvas, and my imagination I am free to utilize color and movement to create mesmerizing artwork. With the growing number of fluid artists across the world, the collaboration and creativity continue to change and enhance my artwork." LINDSEY GIBSON Lindsey is a new mom, who crafts as both hobby and income. She has a degree in English Literature and Language. Lindsey has an infant son, two dogs, and two bunnies to round out her family! While searching for the perfect mobile for her son, she discovered a perfect felt mobile that was too expensive. This spurred her to make her own, and then carry on creating mobiles for others as well. Currently Lindsey creates felt mobiles, garlands, and ornaments, sews tote bags, makes organic beeswax wraps, and paints. Blunder Stumble This power couple brings their different mediums together to help to grow stronger together as artists! One does metal sculptures (Brian), and the other does pour paintings (Jamie). At first glance, these mediums don't have many similarities, but in reality the way you work with them is similar! For both, you have to get them to a state where they flow easier so that you can work with them better. For pour painting, you add things to acrylic paint so that they can flow across the canvas to make stunning and completely unique patterns. Then for metalworking, you need to super heat a metal to connect all the other pieces to create the piece of art you want it to be. You have to get both mediums "melty" to get them to create wondrous works of art. Get to know this couple and they will melt your heart just like with their work! "Bad Jokes by Good People" and to be honest, they really live up to be some really amazing people. This husband and wife duo are the powerhouse behind SKP Ink. Their work is handmade from start to finish; drawn by Sarah, coasters made by Drew, hand sealed, hand cut, hand folded, everything! They create everything in their home, "more of a factory than a living room"! From cards to coasters, magnets and button pins, they have a little something for everyone. THE ORIGIN STORY As Told By Kathryn The beginning was simple; I just wanted beautiful jewelry without paying a ridiculous amount. Being in college has a way of showing you just how broke you really are. From there I taught myself how to work chainmaille. I. Was. HOOKED. Chainmaille quickly became something I looked forward to every day. Crafting in this medium was (and still is) my stress relief from my crazy life. The more I did, the more passionate I became. Soon, I was making all my friends and family member's something for holidays or special occasions. Then I was either making or fixing for people I did not know directly. Which lead to being a part of festivals and other art shows. My side hustle was rapidly turning into something that looked more like a full-time job. I've always loved supporting other artists and directing my buying habits to support my community. When a space opened up in Downtown Mebane, it just made sense to join my passion with other artists. At Impulsive Creativity, we are here to not only display beautiful artwork of all mediums for the public to enjoy, but to also support up and coming artists that might be hesitant to begin their journey in the art world. We offer many different art classes to expand the art community in our area and to pass on our varied passions to others. We are very active in the community by participating in festivals and events that happen near us. We also support many local charities.
